คำอธิบายให้เห็นภาพ#

ทฤษฎีความสัมพันธ์เชิงวัตถุ (Object Relations Theory) คือสายความคิดในจิตวิเคราะห์ที่เปลี่ยนจุดเน้นจาก "แรงขับภายใน" (drive) แบบฟรอยด์ดั้งเดิม ไปสู่ "ความสัมพันธ์กับ object" โดยเฉพาะ object แรก ๆ ในชีวิต เช่น แม่ เต้านม หรือผู้ดูแล รวมถึงภาพภายในที่จิตสร้างขึ้นจากความสัมพันธ์เหล่านั้น

คำว่า "object" ในบริบทนี้ไม่ได้แปลว่า "วัตถุ" ตรงตัว แต่หมายถึงบุคคลหรือภาพแทนของบุคคลที่จิตเข้าไปสัมพันธ์ด้วย ทั้งในโลกภายนอกที่เป็นจริง และในโลกภายในที่จิตสร้างและเก็บรักษาไว้ ความสัมพันธ์กับ object เหล่านี้ตั้งแต่วัยทารกเป็นรากฐานที่หล่อหลอมโครงสร้างบุคลิกภาพ วิธีรับรู้ตนเอง และวิธีสัมพันธ์กับผู้อื่นไปตลอดชีวิต

ความเป็นมาและกรอบความคิด#

แม้ Object Relations จะอยู่ภายในประเพณีจิตวิเคราะห์ (Psychoanalysis) เดียวกับฟรอยด์ แต่ก็ควรแยกพิจารณาเป็นหมวดใหญ่ของตัวเอง เพราะมีภาษาทฤษฎีและวิธีอ่านจิตใจที่ต่างจาก drive theory แบบดั้งเดิมอย่างชัดเจน รากฐานก่อนเกิดสายนี้อยู่ที่ตัวฟรอยด์เองและนักจิตวิเคราะห์ยุคต้น แม้ฟรอยด์จะเน้น drive theory เป็นหลัก แต่แนวคิดเรื่อง object-choice, mourning, melancholia, identification และปมเอดิปุส (Oedipus) ก็เป็นฐานให้ Object Relations พัฒนาต่อได้ ร่วมกับ Karl Abraham ผู้มีอิทธิพลสูงต่อ Melanie Klein, Sándor Ferenczi ผู้เปิดทางให้ความสำคัญกับ trauma และความสัมพันธ์จริงระหว่าง analyst-patient และ Ernest Jones ผู้เผยแพร่จิตวิเคราะห์ในอังกฤษจนสาย Klein/Winnicott/Bion เติบโตได้
